Forecasting page

Forecasting page

Forecasting page provides a bird’s-eye view of the entire tenant, which includes all associated workspaces. This comprehensive overview is often the starting point for identifying issues to investigate or opportunities for improvement.

The date range for data aggregation is configurable, current Year to Date is default.

Cost chart

  • Cost chart displays the actual amount you paid for your Cloud and Databricks bill up to date for past and to-date current months. For future dates cost is predicted based on actual cost so far.

  • Cost is the total tenant cost across all workspaces — regardless of whether telemetry is enabled for a given workspace or not. Consumption data comes from several sources:

    • For AWS LHO deployment cost sources are:

      • Cloud cost comes from Cost Explorer API (default) or Cost and Usage Report (CUR) 1.0

      • Databricks cost comes from Billable Usage Logs and System Tables

    • For Azure LHO deployment cost sources are:

      • Cloud cost comes from Usage Detail API

      • Databricks cost comes from Usage Detail API and System Tables

Monthly, Weekly and Daily views

  • Default Cost chart view is Monthly:

  • Daily view allows users to identify atypical cost increases they may want to investigate further:

Monthly Data KPIs

Data KPIs can be viewed in user interface and also exported as CSV. Click on a month to open KPIs panel. See Client Success KPIs guide to learn about KPIs.

Budget and Commit

Admin user can set your organization budget and commit to enhance the visuals in the monthly view. Follow Budget and Commit configuration guide to set budget and commit.

Cost & Data Usage

Cost & Data Usage chart visualizes monthly KPIs and projects future trends for each KPI line. If costs are increasing while less data is being processed, this may indicate a rise in failures or inefficiencies and warrants a closer examination of individual workloads.

By default, the chart displays an overlay of Cost and Data Usage, with cost amounts shown on the left Y-axis and data usage amounts on the right Y-axis.

Data Usage represents the total number of bytes processed by all clusters (Serverless, Classic Compute, and SQL Warehouses) across all monitored resources. Cost reflects the total tenant cost, including expenses from workspaces that do not have monitoring enabled.

Data Usage Cost line can be added to the default view alongside Cost. It represents the cost of all resources for which data usage information is available.

Cost by Tag Group

Cost by Tag Group chart displays total cost for the selected time period, broken down by tags applied to resources in Databricks. This allows you to view organizational costs through different lenses — for example, by project, department, or creator. Cost data and tag allocation is tenant wide, independent of publishing workspaces for telemetry monitoring.

To learn more on tagging strategy for Databricks, see this guide by Blueprint. Creator tag is added by default in Databricks.

LHO Admin users can control which tags are available in Cost by Tag Group chart. Tags enabled on Settings > Tags Management page are displayed this chart.
