Cost Over Time page

Cost Over Time page

Cost Over Time page shows your organization's costs, broken down by workspace, time period, workload and resource categories. This enables users to quickly identify cost trends at a glance and understand how each cost category changes over time — across all workspaces or a selected subset. The page is tenant wide, independent of publishing workspaces for telemetry monitoring. Available time periods are Monthly, Weekly, and Daily.

Navigating and exploring Cost Over Time

    • If you have any Databricks discount rates and plans, please share the details with the LHO team so that the discounts can be accurately reflected in cost displays.

    • Hover over Cloud Cost Data to review cloud cost sources.

    • Hover over the Databricks Cost Data to review cost sources and any applied discount rates.

  • Select all or some workspaces

    • When all workspaces are selected, the cost shown reflects the total tenant cost across all workspaces.

    • You can select one or some workspaces to see cost changes over time for the specific workspace selection.

    • Azure LHO deployment only: Workspace dropdown options depend on the selected subscription. If two or more subscriptions are selected, all workspaces within those subscriptions are automatically included.

  • Select date range

    • Default date ranges:

      • Monthly view - current year to date

      • Weekly view - last 12 weeks

      • Daily view – last 14 days

    • Update date range selection to the period you are interested in:

      • Monthly view – any 12 months or less

      • Weekly view - any 12 weeks or less

      • Daily view – any 14 days or less

  • Select cost breakdown type

    • Cost breakdown by Feature is default and provides a detailed view of your organization’s costs.

    • Feature, Resource, and Provider tabs display the same cost data, just sliced differently.

    • “Other” category is a catch-all for new features that Databricks may be adding. “Other” should be zero, and LHO team continuously updates consumption to account for changes and new features in Databricks.

  • View Cost Breakdown for a specific month/week/day

    • Example: While on a Monthly tab, click on any bar to filter Cost Breakdown table to that month only. Month-over-month values help you quickly identify which feature category experienced the largest increase or decrease in costs.

    • Click on the selected bar again to reset Cost Breakdown table back to the page date range

    • In Cost Breakdown table, you can expand categories to view their sub-categories. For example, under SQL Warehouse, you’ll find both Classic and Serverless warehouses.

    • Costs for each category and sub-category are further broken down into cloud and Databricks components.
