Overview

To ensure accurate tracking and forecasting of your Databricks and cloud spend in the Blueprint Lakehouse Optimizer (LHO), it is essential to enter your budget and commit details correctly. This information allows LHO to deliver accurate insights into your subscription costs, spend trends, and budget/commit compliance throughout the fiscal year.

 

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on inputting your Annual Budget, Monthly Budget, Annual Commit, and Monthly Commit within the Workspaces view.

 

Steps to Enter Budget and Commit Information

 

Step 1: Access the Workspaces View

 

  1. Navigate to the Workspaces section in LHO.

  2. Select the relevant subscription from the dropdown menu in the Subscription Cost widget.

 

Step 2: Open the Configuration Settings

 

  1. Once your subscription is selected, click the gear icon (⚙️) on the Subscription Cost widget to open the settings menu.

 

Step 3: Configure Your Budget and Commit Details

 

  1. Fiscal Start Date:
    Use the arrows to select the month and year that marks the start of your fiscal year.

  2. Annual Budget:
    Enter your total budget for the fiscal year in USD. This should reflect the overall budget you have allocated across the entire year. The monthly budget will be auto-calculated based on the annual budget you enter

  3. Cloud Commit:
    If applicable, enter your annual commit value for your cloud platform (AWS/Azure) for the fiscal period.

  4. Databricks Commit:
    If applicable, enter your annual commit value for Databricks.

  5. Show Budget / Show Commit:
    Use the toggles to display or hide the budget and commit information in your dashboards.

 

Step 4: Save Your Changes

  1. After entering all required values, click Save to update the budget and commit details.

 

Why is This Important?

 

Accurate budget and commit information allows the Blueprint Lakehouse Optimizer to:

  • Track your spend against budget and commit values.

  • Provide accurate forecasts for the remaining months.

  • Alert you when you’re at risk of exceeding your budget or falling short of your commit.

  • Help you visualize spend trends month-over-month with comparisons against your targets.
